Worried about Mother Nature and her hot flushes?
We are. Because we love to use as many natural ingredients in Naked as possible, we have a responsibility to make sure we don’t do any damage in getting them to you. It’s a bit like tidying up after yourself, or better still, not making a mess in the first place. We’re not scary enough to be eco-warriors, so you might want to call us eco-worriers!
We believe that recycling is a bit like karma – what goes around comes around.
As of May 2009 all of our bottled products are now in 50%-100% post-consumer regrind (PCR) bottles ie. made from already recycled plastic.
The appearance of these bottles is slightly flawed – they have a greenish/brown tinge and the odd black fleck and may look poor quality. The truth is quite contrary as recycled materials are a more expensive option and great time and care is taken in sourcing them. We haven’t passed on the cost to you though, as Naked has never increased its retail price since launch in 2005.
We do believe that, with beauty, it’s what’s inside that counts and our fabulous lotions and potions look and smell as good, if not better, than they ever did.
All our webshop deliveries and company stationery are packaged in environmentally friendly materials – from recycled inner packing and office paper/envelopes to recyclable forest managed cardboard boxes.
It’s vital that we look after our Natural World. If we can source ingredients and materials here in the UK we will. When we have to travel further afield we always buy from sustainable and community-traded sources wherever we possibly can. So for example, we would never use Rosewood essential oil in a fragrance because there is no replanting policy for this endangered species of tree and the Marula and Brazil nut oils in our hair products are community traded.
Oh, and by the way, all of our products have always been Made in the UK – it cuts down on our carbon footprint.
Naked contains no animal derived ingredients so is suitable for vegetarians. A few products do contain animal by-products i.e. milk, honey and beeswax but we do highlight these as not suitable for Vegans on our published ingredients lists on our website. We also don’t believe in testing on Bambi, Lassie, Skippy or any other animal – not any of our ingredients, not our final product (although our founder’s dog once had an Angelica bubble bath courtesy of her kids!) We operate a Fixed Cut Off policy dating from 2000. That’s why we’re listed in Naturewatch UK’s Compassionate Shopper Guide.
Since our company was founded in 2005 we have wanted to share our success with deserving causes. So far, we have donated over £50,000 to humanitarian and environmental charities including the Rainforest Foundation, Woodland Trust, Women’s Aid and Plantlife. We also work closely with smaller fundraisers for organisations such as the Haven Trust, Unicef, Breast Cancer Research and the Whale & Dolphin Conservation Society.
