The best
ingredients

We believe our active ingredients are the best in their field for natural skincare… for example we don't think you can beat Cocoa Butter for moisturising.

We want to keep you up to date

So, with much shuffling of paper on desks a la Moira Stewart, here are all things new and Naked........

Naked's new arrivals

Like any proud parent, we can't wait to show off our two new Naked offspring - Juniper Without a Stitch Purifying Hand Wash and Starflower Stark Naked Softening Hand Wash.

And because we don't want to wash our hands of our green responsibilities, our two new babies, along with the newly repackaged Bitter Orange Handwash and Manuka Honey Hand Lotion, all come in bottles made from totally recycled plastic (100% PCR plastic) - look out for the Born Again logos on pack.

Naked handwashes come in 250ml bottles and cost £3.99. They are available in Boots from 2nd March 2008. Click here to take a peek..... http://www.nakedbodycare.co.uk/hands-cid221.html

The Observer Ethical Awards 2008

Ethical Business of the Year - Sponsored by Triodos Bank

This new category will reward the steps made by large or small businesses to deliver goods or services in a truly ethical manner. Increasingly, businesses are looking at their performance from an ethical as well as a financial perspective, recognising that consumer power favours those who operate transparently and sustainably. Who do you think is leading the way in this new business model? Who has demonstrated that their business is about more than pounds and pence, but also cares about people and the planet?

Readers can put forward their suggestions and the judging panel will select the winner.

If you think Naked is good at changing the way Beauty products are made and sold then you can vote for us in the Ethical Business category at http://observer.guardian.co.uk/ethicalawards.

Thanks!

Greener, Cleaner New Year

Nowadays, there is so much more to give up in January than chocolate and alcohol etc. We are all being urged to give up the things we've taken for granted like plastic carrier bags and handy disposable thingummies that make life so easy -  even our lovely cosy central heating has to come down a degree.  But we really do need to make these small changes fast if we want to help Mother Nature.

Here are a few things that will make a difference without much sacrifice - bit of a kickstart to help you achieve a Greener, Cleaner 2008:

1. Remove unnecessary chemicals from your life - you will never see sulfates, parabens or petrochemicals in Naked's ingredients lists.

2. If you drink wine then choose bottles which come with a cork because, whilst metal screw tops can be recycled, if we don't support the cork tree growers in Europe then cork trees won't be replanted and that would leave a big gap in our bio-diversity ( after all they don't kill the tree to make the cork, they kind of just "shear" it like a sheep, and cork is biodegradable )

3. Choose products with less packaging. Beautiful double walled boxes with ribbons and tissue paper are gorgeous, we know, but do we really need them?  Naked has recently introduced smaller caps and 1/3 of the range is now in 100% PCR recycled plastic bottles and our gift sets are totally compostable. You see, it can be done.

4. Detox - if you want to do the traditional thing this New Year and detox, then don't forget your hair.  Hair is vulnerable to all kinds of toxins and pollutants, but Naked Detox shampoo and conditioner will leave your hair feeling literally squeaky clean without using unnecessary chemicals to remove the chemicals ...... get it?

5. Save water - share a bath or a shower with a loved one (and if romance is in the air, use candles as well and save on electricity).

6. Use micro-fibre cloths to clean around the house - that way  all you need to do is add water, no need for harsh chemicals and you can use them over and over again. ( Trust us it's true - Louise P our Founder swears by them and she's a domestic goddess!)

7. So you've bought the Bag For Life and all 82 trendy versions of it. Now you have to resolve to remember to actually take it with you. That's our biggest New Year's resolution.

Thank you

In 2007 Naked people helped us to raise over £30,000 for the Woodland Trust and The Rainforest Foundation through sales of our Christmas gifts. We would have liked to write each and every one of you a personal thank you note, but it would have taken us most of 2008 and besides, we've got messy handwriting.....

In 2008 we have another "giving gift" - Naked in the Meadow is a delectable little set of three 100ml creams - Manuka Honey Laid Bare Hand Lotion, Cocoa Butter Revealed Body Butter and Rose With No Clothes Shimmering Body Cream - and it costs £8.99.  Each pack sold will donate 50p to Plantlife, the only UK charity dedicated to the conservation of our rarest meadow flowers - for more details visit www.plantlife.org.uk. Flowers are more important to the environment than you might think and can anyone imagine a life without flowers?

A tree is for life, not just for Christmas

Naked Christmas gift boxes are environmentally friendly using only recycled, recyclable card and corn starch. Offering great value for money, they contain nothing but full size packs of your favourite toiletries and a donation certificate which turns into a full size poster for keeps.

Donations are made to our charirtable partners the Woodland Trust and The Rainforest Foundation  and so far we have raised £30,000! You can get these sets online or at your large Boots stores. To find out more about the products visit our Gift Sets section here http://www.nakedbodycare.co.uk/gift%20sets-cid223.html or to find out more about the charities, click the link below:

'Born Again' Plastic Bottles

We recently reduced the amount of packaging we use by ditching the overcaps which made our products appear taller ( Honey, we shrunk the lids! ). But we always want to try and do more, so we are now incredibly proud to introduce our new bottles made from 100% Post Consumer Regrind (PCR) plastic. In short, plastic bottles that once used to be something else - perhaps a CD case, perhaps it was another bottle - who knows! These bottles aren't aesthetically perfect, but we don't believe they have to be - after all, beauty is skin deep and it's not what's on the outside that counts. And they can be recycled in the usual way so they can be born again and again and again ..........

To start with, all of our foam baths, hand washes and 250ml hand lotions will be in the 100% PCR material - a total of seven products. Eventually we want to introduce it to as many of our products as possible, but PCR PET is a very rigid plastic, so at the moment we can't use it for any of our products that need squeezing. But please "bare" with us - we know that giant strides are taking place in the packaging industry at the moment and as soon as some clever person comes up with a way of achieving a flexible recycled plastic, we will endeavour to use it across our whole range.

So look out for the Born Again logos on pack - they should be coming through in Boots stores now and we will be introducing them to Naked online shopping in early December.

We think that this might be the first launch of a UK toiletries brand in 100% PCR material in UK manufactured bottles. But we hope it won't be the last - the more brands that can introduce recycled packaging, the better!

Honey, We Shrunk the Lids!

When two become one ( in the words of the Spice Girls ) and with a bit of Naked jiggery pokery we have made our overcaps do a disappearing act.  Coming to a shelf near you soon.  Less packaging = less waste.

Our body washes have a new chunky-but-funky pop-up lid and the bath foams have a  new screw cap. No more overcaps! We never thought we'd find ourselves saying we'd give you less for your money, but in this instance, we hope you see it as a good thing. You will see these new lids appearing on your shelves soon but please "bare"  with us while old stock with the double lids sells through.

The plastics we use for our bottles are also changing - we use HDPE plastic, which is a highly recyclable * plastic. However, this Autumn we are really pleased to be able to introduce some post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic bottles to our range, which is even better. Look out for more on this soon.....

        * We find all this recycling / recyclable terms a bit hard to get our heads around, so just in case you do too:

Recyclable - this means you can pop it down to your local recycling plant (or if you're lucky have it picked up from your house) and it will be ground down to be made into something else.

Recycled plastic - this is a plastic in its second / third or fourth life. It may once have been a bottle, or maybe a CD holder, who knows.
