Stay warm, look good

Hands up who’s feeling the chill? Thought so. It’s freezing out there, and if you’re anything like us you’ll be freezing indoors to. Shivering chic is NOT a good look, so short of crawling back under the duvet and hibernating just what can you do? Well, there are ways that you can stay warm and look good, and we think we’ve got a few perfect ideas up our sleeves.

Fingerless gloves will be a good place to start. These little beauties keep your hands warm whilst leaving your fingers free to type, the ultimate solution when you’re stuck in a cold office. And, if you look for multi-way gloves that can transform into mittens you won’t even need to change them when you head outside—perfect!

Slankets can be another option. Perhaps not so ideal if you’re in an office but perfect for home-workers, and they can be just as useful if you want to curl up on the sofa when you get home. Half blanket, half dressing gown, the Slanket will keep you warm whilst leaving your arms free to move, offering the perfect combination of comfort and practicality.

Hats and scarves will of course be essential purchases if you’re thinking of heading outside (and will sometimes be needed indoors as well), but if you want to keep up with the latest trends then a snood would be ideal. It’s another hybrid form of clothing that offers a scarf/hat/hood combo, being ideal for fashion-conscious individuals that want to stay warm.

So there you have it—a few potential purchases that will help you stay warm and look good, making sure you can see through the cold snap in style. And, if all else fails and you’re still cold, just put the kettle on and whip up a nice hot chocolate. Much better.

Quick mood boosters

Sometimes we could all do with a bit of a boost, and if thoughts of the colder weather winging its way over have got you down here are a few quick and simple mood boosters that could make all the difference:

  • Exercise. I know, the last thing you feel like doing is exercising, but trust me when I say that it can be the perfect solution. Exercise releases feel-good endorphins into the bloodstream, giving you an instant pick-me-up as well as a gorgeous post-workout glow.

  • Laugh. A quick belly laugh can have a powerful impact on your mood and can instantly make you feel more relaxed. What more excuse do you need to watch re-runs of Friends?

  • Eat chocolate. Now, we don’t need a reason to eat chocolate here at the Naked office, but knowing that it has mood-enhancing effects makes us feel more angelic than sinful—chocolate contains phenylethylamine, a mood-regulating chemical that’s found naturally in the brain, and it’s also thought to boost the body’s production of serotonin, a natural anti-depressant. Stick to dark chocolate (for additional antioxidant benefits) and remember that a square or two is all you need. Theoretically, anyway…

  • Listen to music. A quick blast of your favourite tune can work wonders for your mood, with studies even showing that upbeat tracks can reduce the level of stress hormones in your body. Plus, if you combine those effects with songs that flood you with happy memories you’ve got the ultimate mood-boosting solution.

  • Get social. If you’re really feeling down in the dumps the last thing you want to do is be sociable, but seeing friends and family can actually work wonders for your mood. You know how good that chat with your Mum or best girlfriend makes you feel? Get to it!

  • Relax. Relaxation can come in many forms, whether you feel like going for a long leisurely walk, want to sit and read a book or would rather indulge in a bubble bath, but whatever you fancy just giving yourself a bit of “me time” can transform your mood.

Why not try a few out? January may be over (finally!) but you could still find yourself needing a little boost, and any one of these options could make all the difference. So what are you waiting for? Get happy!

Give your skin a workout

We all know the benefits of giving our body a workout (as much as we hate to admit it), but now some clever people at a top holistic treatment centre have developed a way to give tired skin a workout as well. Known as the Skin Gym, this revolutionary concept has just launched at Triyoga Chelsea and is set to give us a whole new insight into how to keep skin happy.

The Skin Gym is based on the idea that the way you feel inside will be reflected on the outside, and so the treatment takes a holistic approach to facial rejuvenation. Facialist Charlotte Colwell has developed a “facial workout” which combines luxurious potions with yoga-based breathing exercises, with the aim being to get you to relax so the treatment can do its work. Charlotte believes that many skin complaints are caused by stress so her treatment focuses on getting you to balance your emotions—her core facial includes a relaxing neck and shoulder massage (complete with hand-blended essential oils), a deep cleanse and exfoliation followed by a sequence of massage movements on pressure points to clarify the skin, with the final step being the application of a “live” face mask and a relaxing foot massage.

The result? A relaxed expression, fewer frown lines, a youthful glow and a deep sense of calm, with your skin having a radiance that seems to come from within. Sounds good to us! The combination of relaxation and high-end yet natural products is said to work wonders, but of course, you don’t have to head all the way to Chelsea to get this kind of experience. You could always give yourself a holistic massage with the right masks and moisturisers, and if you pamper yourself after a yoga workout you could be in the perfect frame of mind to see the results.

Food for thought

It’s easy to feel tired and sluggish at this time of year and if you’re anything like us you could find your concentration levels slip pretty rapidly (particularly on a Friday…). But, there’s no need to invest in expensive supplements or OD on caffeine, because a slight change in your diet could be all it takes to boost your brain power and leave you raring to go.

There are plenty of foods out there that are said to enhance mental agility and concentration levels, being the perfect solution if you’re starting to feel like you’re running on empty. Wholegrains can be particularly beneficial and it can be easy to fit them in—opt for wholegrain bread instead of white for your lunchtime sandwich, have porridge for breakfast instead of sugary cereal and swap your regular rice and pasta for their wholegrain alternatives—voila!

Oily fish is also high on the list of brain-boosting foods, with salmon, mackerel and the like being high in essential fatty acids and iodine, both essential for our nervous system with iodine being known to help enhance mental clarity. Berries, and in particular acai berries and blueberries, are also essential as they’re packed with antioxidants and vitamins with tomatoes being in a similar vein—all of them superfoods in every sense of the word. Nuts and seeds should also be included with pumpkin seeds and walnuts being especially beneficial, and of course remember your leafy green vegetables with broccoli being packed with vitamin K for increased cognitive function and brain power.

It needn’t even take much to incorporate these foods into your daily diet—a couple of food swaps, a sprinkle of seeds on your morning cereal, a vitamin-packed main meal and even a berry-licious smoothie could be all it takes to experience the benefits, and the best part about adopting a healthier lifestyle is that many of the foods mentioned have fantastic long-term brain-enhancing effects. Studies show that diseases such as Alzheimer’s could be slowed down and even prevented with the help of optimum nutrition, and with many of these foods being pretty damned tasty anyway you’ve got nothing to lose. So what are you waiting for? Add a few extra items to your shopping list and you’ll be buzzing before you know it.

Create a Spa in your bedroom

Here at the Naked office we can’t resist a spot of pampering, and at this time of year a trip to the spa could be just what the doctor ordered. But, this doesn’t mean you need to whip out the credit card and spend a small fortune on professional treatments—why not turn your bathroom into your own private spa? It needn’t be that difficult to achieve yet can be just as luxurious, letting you enjoy a pampering treat without the price tag.

First up—candles. You just can’t have a spa without soft lighting to set the mood, and the harsh glare from your ceiling light simply won’t cut it. Lighting a few candles will instantly make you feel more relaxed, and if you opt for scented candles you could get additional holistic benefits too. You might want to think about bringing some music into the room as well, with classical music or even a compilation of chill out music being the perfect accompaniment to your relaxing evening.

Once you’ve set the scene you need to think about the products you’re going to need, with bubble bath of course being an essential consideration. Floating away on a sea of bubbles will erase all your stresses (with our Melt Away Naked Starflower Foam Bath being ideal), and for added indulgence make sure to treat your hair to an intensive conditioning treatment. Don’t forget the thick fluffy towels to dry off with afterwards (old, rough towels will do nothing for your spa experience) and make sure to slather on our Full of Glee Starflower Body Butter to complete the pampering process.

The combination of soft lighting, soothing music and fragrant bath products will create the ultimate spa, giving you a chance to relax and unwind in a new yet familiar environment. It’ll be like stepping into another world without having to set foot outside your front door, and you could even pour yourself a glass of wine or hunt for the stash of hidden chocolate for even more indulgence—what day spa lets you do that?

Flowers- the perfect pick-me-up

How is it still January? We’re broke, cold and miserable, yet January just seems to be getting longer. If you, like us, are still in the midst of the winter blues you’re probably fed up and wondering what to do about it, but fear not—getting happy doesn’t have to require huge amounts of cash, ridiculous products or large quantities of wine and chocolate, because all it could really take is a bunch or two of flowers.

Yep, flowers could be the perfect pick-me-up and the key to beating the January blues. Don’t believe us? There’s been a study to prove it—in 2005 a group of researchers at Rutgers University in the US explored the link between flowers and life satisfaction, finding that flowers have an immediate impact on happiness as well as a long-term positive effect on mood (participants reported feeling less anxious, depressed and agitated), and they can even increase contact with family and friends. It doesn’t stop there either—a further study at Harvard showed that seeing flowers first thing in the morning can be the ultimate pick-me-up to improve mood, energy and happiness throughout the day, perfect for those of us that aren’t morning people!

It’s easy to see the truth in these studies as well. Just think of the last time you were given a bouquet of flowers or treated yourself to a bunch or two—how did you feel? Pretty good, I bet. Flowers can brighten your mood and will instantly put a smile on your face, and simply walking into a room with a vase of flowers can work wonders for your emotional health. It can be a quick and simple way to make you feel better and can be the perfect antidote to the winter blues, so what are you waiting for? Get out there and treat yourself to a bunch and see the difference for yourself.

Feel like a drowned rat? Naked to the rescue!

Anyone else sick of this miserable winter weather? Yep, thought so. If you’re not drowning in a monsoon you’re being buffeted by gale force winds or chilled to the bone by freezing temperatures, and it isn’t just our body or mind that suffers—it’s our hair too. Hair can easily become dull and damaged with cold weather and additional styling all making the hair shaft brittle and prone to breakage, so it’s important to give your hair a little bit of TLC if you want to keep it strong, healthy and full of life.

It might be time to look into a change of shampoo and conditioner, because at this time of year you’ll really benefit from the difference. Consider something with extra moisturising properties and ideally go for products that have been developed to target dry, damaged locks—our Naked Rescue Intensive Care Shampoo and Conditioner would be ideal, with these products breathing life into your hair by targeting damaged tresses to reduce breakage and restore hair to its original lustre. Of course, in extreme cases an additional rescue remedy might be called for with our Repairing Hair Treatment being ideal—treat your hair to a generous scoop of this intensive conditioning treatment, relax for 3-5 minutes before rinsing and forget all about the winter weather that’s raging outside.

So, if you’re feeling more than a little drowned-rat like, make sure to give your hair the attention it deserves. Try to lay off intensive styling as well (let’s face it, our beautifully straightened locks don’t last long in this weather anyway) and opt for the more natural look and make sure to have that hat ready and waiting for extra warmth and hair protection. Your hair will stay looking fabulous for the rest of the season, seeing you through to spring in style.

When should we start using anti-aging products?

These days we’re all getting a little bit hung up on getting older, thanks in no small part to the seemingly endless supply of celebrities that never seem to age. In the quest to keep those signs of aging at bay many of us are looking to anti-aging treatments to keep our youthful, glowing complexions for longer, but just when should we start using these products?

Well, skin starts to lose its elasticity and slows down collagen production in your mid-to-late 20s, so from then on you’ll need to start taking extra care of your skin. But, this doesn’t mean you need to go all-out on anti-wrinkle products—it’s all about prevention at this stage so keeping your skin moisturised and healthy is all you need to do, paying extra attention to the delicate skin around your eyes and lips.

Prevention is always better than cure and the fight against premature aging starts from the inside, so you need to take care of your body unless you want to see the consequences on your skin—drink plenty of water to keep hydrated, lay off the alcohol and cigarettes, exercise and eat healthily, because all of these things can have an enormous impact on the condition of your skin and can be the first line of defence against lines and wrinkles. Remember to keep out of the sun and give sunbeds a wide berth, and always wear a decent sunscreen every single day to prevent the damaging effects of the sun’s rays.

You don’t even need to go too heavy-handed with the moisturisers, at least not at first, because a daily dose of rich moisturising cream (such as our Thirst Aid 12 Hour Moisturiser) incorporated into a thorough cleansing and toning regime could be all you need to keep skin happy, healthy and totally moisturised. You’ll soon know when it’s time to start looking into anti-aging products but in the meantime—relax! Stress can be just as damaging to your skin, so stop worrying and stick the kettle on instead.

Have an ultra glam Diet Coke break

Who doesn’t love a good Diet Coke break? It’s technically, technically, sticking to our January diets (unless you’ve decided to forego all fizzy drinks as well. Madness, we tell you) yet can still give that much-needed buzz, and with it being January AND Monday we can’t resist a good caffeine hit. But, now you can add some extra glamour to your break as well—Diet Coke has teamed up with cult beauty brand Benefit to order us to “Get Glam”, and who couldn’t do with a glamorous pick me up right about now?

The Get Glam collection features three limited-edition cans with statement pouts on each, all inspired by Benefit’s cult favourites of Benetint, Posietint and Cha Cha tint. But, as well as being able to bring a little fun into your lunch break these stylish beauties will offer so much more—each can will give you £5 off any order of £20 or more at benefitcosmetics.co.uk, and when you log on you’ll even be able to see how to recreate this season’s statement looks with the help of their three favourite products. What more reason do you need?

The cans will be on shelves until March so you’ve got plenty of time to get your hands on one (or several), and even more time to browse through their delectable collection of cosmetics. You could invest in their iconic Benetint lip and cheek stain, plump up the volume with their Lip Plump or enhance your complexion (a must at this time of year) with their High Beam highlighter—the choice is yours, but whatever you decide you can be confident that Benefit will leave you feeling glam all season. So, enjoy your Diet Coke break with a difference this January and get searching for those cans before they sell out!

It's "Me" time

The weather’s cold and miserable, you’re struggling with your New Year’s resolutions and getting back to a proper working week after all that indulgence is harder than you ever imagined. What more reason do you need to have a bit of me time? A bit of pampering is just what the doctor ordered, so pull up a chair, uncork that bottle of wine and get comfy—you’ve got a lot of relaxing to do.

You can’t beat a good old fashioned bubble bath for a bit of indulgence, but you need to set the mood if you want to make it just right. Bright lights and a lack of bubbles will do nothing for you, so light a few candles, put on some soothing music and pour a generous amount of your favourite bath foam into the tub. Why not try our Melt Away Naked Starflower Bath Foam? You’ll be carried off in a wave of luxurious bubbles, melting away any stresses of the day for the ultimate in relaxation.

You’ll want to follow that bath with a layer of indulgent body lotion to keep your skin velvety soft, and our Full of Glee Starflower Body Butter will be the perfect solution. If you washed your hair make sure to pop on some leave-in conditioner for a no-fuss way of keeping locks beautiful, and what about paying some much-needed attention to your hands and feet? A pampering session calls for a manicure and pedicure, so whip out those nail polishes and get to work.

After that, the world’s your oyster. You could curl up with a book, watch a film, get out the chocolate and wine, but whatever you do make sure to remember that lounging around in comfortable clothes (or even better, a onesie) will get you extra relaxation points. And hey, it’s Friday! Treat yourself to a quiet night in or weekend on the sofa (I know I will be) and chill out for a bit—you’ll feel better for it.

Soothe winter skin with the right products

At this time of year your skin deserves a bit of extra TLC. The biting winds and winter chill can leave it dry, chapped and dull, and if you’re anything like us here at the Naked office your skin will be crying out for moisture. It’s time to invest in some heavy-duty treatments, and adding or changing a few products could be all you need to do to soothe your skin and leave it perfectly happy and full of life.

Your face will be first on the list of priorities. No matter how much you try to bundle up in that scarf it’s still the area that’s most open to the elements so a rich, hydrating moisturiser is a must—our Thirst Aid 12 Hour Moisturiser would be ideal. You shouldn’t let the rest of your beauty regime slip though so make sure to keep up with the usual cleanse, tone and moisturising process, and you’ll want to pay extra special attention to your lips as well. Your lips are the most delicate part of your face and will quickly succumb to the effects of the cold weather, so always carry around a stick of lip balm or tin of Vaseline to keep them kissably soft.

Your hands will also be particularly susceptible to the cold weather, and even with gloves on that chill can still penetrate to leave them dry, cracked and sore. Regular application of hand cream is a must, so make sure to leave a tube on your desk at work and always carry some around in your handbag for moisture on the go. It needn’t take much to soothe your skin and a couple of additional products could make all the difference, so make sure to be on the lookout for heavy-duty treatments for your skin to drink up and your body will thank you for it.

Detoxing made easy

So, it’s the second week of January—how are those detoxing resolutions faring up? If you’re anything like us here at the Naked office, you could be struggling. Yeah yeah, we all have such good intentions of drinking less, eating less and exercising more, but no matter how strategically we hide those remaining Christmas chocolates it’s all-too easy to dig them out again. But, all is not lost—there are a few things you could do to make detoxing easier, and you needn’t reach for the wine in desperation just yet.

First things first—water. Increasing your intake of water can be a great way to flush out the system after all that Christmas indulgence, and just a few extra glasses a day could be all you need to do to give you glowing skin and make you feel generally fitter and healthier. Including a bit of extra exercise needn’t be that tricky either—use the stairs rather than the lift at work, get off the bus that extra stop early or simply go for an invigorating walk at the weekend to get the pulse racing. Or, if you’re a gym bunny, why not try out a group class? Exercising in a group can be a great way to increase your motivation and get you moving, and if you choose something like Zumba you can have fun while you exercise too.

But, why stop at the obvious? Swapping your usual beauty products for something more natural can be a great way to detox your skin, reducing your chemical count for that perfect natural glow. Why not try our 24 Hour Naked Coco de Mer Body Butter for pure indulgence, Get Fresh Naked Minty Menthol Body Wash for the ultimate pick-me-up or perhaps our Thirst Aid 12 Hour Moisturiser to soothe winter skin? A few simple changes could be all it takes, helping you stick to your detoxing resolutions to start the year in the best way possible.

Swim yourself young

There has been a long tradition around the festive period, for people plunging themselves into the cold icy waters of the North Sea. On Christmas Day you will see hundreds stood in the harbours and on the shores of our beautiful seaside resorts and villages, braving the cold in the name of tradition and the festive period. It's a very bracing experience and the people of Clacton have been doing this for the past 58 years. Funnily enough, this year was one of the warmest on record.

If you are lucky enough to live on the coast you may notice the odd couple of people who are in the sea everyday. There are people who are literally addicted to this pass time and come rain snow, winter or summer, they will trudge out and get into the ocean. Its exhilarating and many not only do it for fitness but to feel the blood pumping through their veins.

Its a free pass time, its one of the best pass times to help keep muscles toned and your body fit. Obviously in January and February you can't stay in for more than 5 minutes, some will simply wear their swimming costumes, for those who really want to work out, they may invest in a wet suit, but believe it or not there is quite a big following of this kind of activity and it's not just on our beaches but in our rivers also!

If there is something you want to do, to up your fitness but don't want to spend lots of money on expensive gym memberships, this "free swimming" is a great option.

Obviously safety is paramount, don't just go throwing yourself into the sea, look at tide times and natural breaks where there could be a rip tide created.

Get those swimming costumes on and let the water hit your skin and stimulate your senses!

Create a new space

Clear out the old and bring in the new, a tradition that has been used around the New Year period for hundreds of years and after a little trip to the shops, the Naked Body Care team has been completely inspired.

Luckily we don't all have to be millionaires to create a stylish home, just some common sense and an idea of how you would like the room to look.

We thought we would take a look at bathrooms as they tend to be the rooms where we store all of our gorgeous beauty products, with shelves of shampoos and moisturisers.

We've taken inspiration from the coast and "beach hut" feel as this is an incredibly popular furnishing style at the moment.

Imagine "coastal chic" rather than "the arcades at the end of the pier" we're talking natural colours such as sands, stones, whites, woods and a minimal room. Now, this maybe slightly difficult, but you can always invest in a box or drawers or something that you can stick all your cosmetics into that will be hidden away.

So take everything out of the bathroom, clear it out and start with a blank canvas, if it needs a spot of paint, now is the time to do so, but choose something neutral, an off white for example.

Now is the exciting bit, picking pieces to help create that beautiful relaxing room.

For our coastal chic look, we adore these pieces:

Carefully placed storm lamps with white candles look the business, surrounded with a couple of beach stones or drift wood.

A rope woven stool is perfect for placing clothes whilst bathing and you can bring the essence of the ocean to the bathroom with beautiful shell soap dishes.

Now time to run the bath and enjoy a well deserved soak

To tan or not to tan

Today I am sat at the home of a bride and groom to be, its boxing day and today they will be tying the not! What a fantastic day to choose a wedding, a real treat after the sometimes frustrating and slightly boring Christmas Day.

Obviously its a winter wedding and I have been considering whether to tan. No I know for a fact some of the attendants to the wedding will be completely gorgeous and stunning, with full tan, but being a pale natural beauty (ahem) I wondered whether to tan. Although its widely accepted, does it look at bit odd in the depths of winter?

Funnily enough so many people tan now that no one ever thinks you've been away to a tropical island, where as years ago they may have asked whether you have been away on holiday. Not any more, they are more likely to ask you what make it was and when you had it done.

So I've decided not to go for a full spray, but a light tint, using Palmers Cocoa Butter Self Tan, I love it and out of everything I have ever tried, I feel it gives the most natural looking colour and rather than smelling of biscuits it smells of cocoa! Wonderful.

Like every other tanning agent you have to prepare your skin make sure the dry areas are focused on with exfoliator and moisturised properly, or you will be cursed with the dark orangy brown patches.

Luckily tinted moisturisers with self tan provide all of this without having to worry.

No I've just got to sort out my hair, put on the dress and I will be ready for the ball!

A Wonderful Christmas!

Merry Christmas everyone!

The Naked Body Care team are in the festive mood, we're finishing our wrapping, grabbing some last minute beauty gifts and tidying up before we head off for the festive season.

We've had a wonderful year and some amazing memories and some fabulous products.

So here is to the New Year, lots more fabulous Naked Body Care ideas and more naked love!

Christmas, as we all know is a time for giving. We support the Oxfam project in Shinyanga, which helps provide clean water to those less fortunate than us. Facilities such as latrines and water pumps are made available by this fantastic project.

"Our products promote washing and bathing, and in most cases are made with water. A simple shower after sports or a relaxing bath is often a luxury which we take for granted. Millions are without basic water and we wanted to find a project which had water at its heart and felt that Oxfam’s long term projects in Tanzania were enabling communities to address many issues"- says Rachel Groom, General Manager of Naked

If you're in the giving mood, donate to this fantastic cause, it will help lots of people live independently and reduce illness spread by diseases carried in dirty water, by providing fresh clean water facilities.

Once again, thanks for a fabulous year and Merry Christmas to all

Shine Yourself Silly

We all lust after it at this time of year... no... not the latest iPad (though that would be nice #nudge), we're talking about SUPER SHINY HAIR! As we tend to eat slightly "indulgent" foods and knock back a cheeky vino or five, coupled with damp weather and central heating, it can actually leave your hair feeling a tad on the dull side. We say FAKE IT!

If you're a Naked fan then you'll know that our shampoos are gorgreously mild, SLS free loveliness. If you've over indulged on styling products and heat styling from statuesque party styling then we suggest using Detox Shampoo to clean away any chemical build up.

For special shine in time for New Year, try out Shine Glossing Hair Treatment... after all the running around after the rellies and the "stress" of so much chocolate, too many parties... it's nice to take some time (well, 20 minutes) to give yourself a tub time treat. Slather onto the ends of your hair and wash out for mirror shine and supreme softness. We say (if you can stand it) a short sharp rinse in cold water will also add to the shine effect. It actually works!

Now, we can't do much about the weather, but there's nothing worse than spending an AGE on perfecting your style only to have it RUINED by pesky drizzle / mist / damp in the winter air. Arm yourself with Frizz Fighter for some weather busting brilliantness. Silicone free, it'll give you amazing shine as well as taming frizz and flyaways whatever hair type you have.

Did you know, the iron in your Christmas Day brussell sprouts will also help give you hair a strength and a shine from within? Thought not! We think we'll stick to faking it...

Winter Dreaming

We all have a dream don't we? A place or situation that we like to escape to on the odd occasion when we really should be checking emails or cooking.
I have a dream, which I believe could become reality, I just need someone who owns a log cabin in the mountains, some kind of Hugh Jackman looking man who loves tall women and just wants to settle down and cook for me. Sound fabulous doesn't it?
At Christmas I always imagine this scenario, it probably seems like a cliche, but when the snow is falling and you are inside a stunning cosy log cabin, the fire is roaring, you wake up, he has made coffee and an amazing breakfast and you literally spend the day wrapped up in deep furs in front of the fire, drinking cocoa and you're naked.
Yes a bit controversial but your skin is amazing and soft and you just feel so warm, relaxed and confident you can strut around as nature intended.
Although a dream where I am a super model and have no qualms about my body, great skin can be attained in reality.
The best way to do that and feel great is with natural products, harnessing the power of nature to create incredibly soft and supple skin.
Obviously Naked Body Care loves natural, even au naturel!! Not in the office though please, we have work to do, leave that to your day dreams!
From the comfort of our mountain log cabins!

Natural Make-up

Naked Body Care was born from a desire for natural products that were kind to skin and the environment. We're proud of our natural body and hair collection and look to other products to inspire us.

Today we're looking at a range of Natural Make Up. There are hundreds of companies on the high street and on line that produce natural cosmetics, but we have picked a few of our favourites.

Natural cosmetics are perfect for those with sensitive skin and they boast to last a lot longer and provide a better finish than enhanced cosmetics.

Bare Minerals is a cosmetic company which boast 100% natural mineral based cosmetics. Brighter glowing skin with a reduction in fine lines and pores are the results. Their products also encourage faster cell production so you always have amazing looking skin. Some of our favourite Bare Minerals products include their powder foundation, an incredible product which covers the skin flawlessly and provides SFP 15, this product has won many awards.

Une is an organic natural cosmetic producer. They provide cosmetics in very chic packaging, which gives you a luxury feel. Une have won numerous awards for their products including Best New Cosmetic Producer and winners of the Pure Beauty Awards.  We love Unes nude eye palettes.

You will find literally hundreds of companies boasting natural products, but a word to the wise, if you are allergic to any chemicals always check the ingredients label before you purchase.

Natural Body Care offers natural products that are dermatalogically tested and 97% natural.

Hard Water, Dry Skin

It's funny little things you notice when you go away, stay with friends or treat yourself to a break. Sometimes you have to break your beauty routine or borrow things that you wouldn't normally use, not that this is a major issue, but today I have the skin of a 1000 year old mummy. It's nothing to do with the products or sensitivity, but last night I stayed with friends who live in a hard water area. The results are dry skin this morning, which is a little uncomfortable.

Hard Water can sometimes contain excesses of minerals which can cause problems to skin and hair. Calcium is present in water drawn from wells. Calcium can leave the hair feeling dry and weighed down and if you have had a perm it can sometimes relax it slightly. Chlorine has also been added to water to kill bacteria but can cause problems to the hair.

Many chemicals added to hard water can attache themselves to your skin, hair and scalp and cause dryness and choke hair follicles, breaking the hair at the route. Doesn't sound too pleasant does it?

Soft water is obviously kinder to the skin, some people still may find that soft water can cause their hair to be quite fly away and when using products in the shower and bath, you need less due to the soft water causing greater lathering qualities. This is a great way to allow your shampoos, conditioners and washes to last a lot longer.

If you do live in a hard water area you can add softeners to your system. If you find that difficult, make sure you apply plenty of moisturiser after bathing, natural products are great and work in harmony with your skin, making you glow rather than flake.

Hello Panda

The Perils of the Party Season. We love to layer up the festive make-up, add some sparkle, make those smokey eyes. Our skin can take a real hammering over the festive season, so with the help of the Naked Body Care team, we want to make sure your skin is in the best condition this Christmas so you can go on and party to your hearts content.

Personally I can not sleep if I have not removed every trace of makeup. Not only that, if I sleep in my war paint, my skin is terrible the next day. Some of my friends hit the hay in full on makeup and wake looking like Disney Princesses, unfortunatly not all of us are gifted with such great skin.

So, my general bedtime routine includes a face wipe to remove most of the makeup, then a cleanser, toner and moisturiser.

Despite how much attention I pay to eye make-up, I still tend to wake up with Panda eyes, which as we know isn't the most attractive look.

So, lets get a good routine going, so your skin is ready for the next layer of party make-up.

Firstly remove eye make-up with our Naked Body Care Blinking Lovely Eye Make Up Remover, its natural and kind to sensitive skin, the ingredients help cool the eye area and prevent redness.

Next our Getaway Cream Cleanser will provide lovely clean soft skin. Grab our Up Tone Girl toner and wipe across the face with a cotton pad.

Finally lavish your skin with our Thirst Aid 12 hour Moisturiser.

You will wake with beautifully clean soft skin that is ready for more party war paint, without a Panda in sight!

Cold Feet Warm Heart

I find it difficult to sleep with cold feet. I imagine many others suffer from this affliction, yet no matter how much foot rubbing and pairs of socks, some nights it feels like my feet are in  blocks of ice.

Now, I must admit I'm not the best when it comes to managing my feet, for me they are there, they do a job and despite pampering the rest of my body, I never really take time out to look after my little footsies! Which is bad for a start because they probably do the most hard work, shifting me around.

I have a theory now that if I do pay attention to my feet, scrub them, soften them and give them some TLC I may be able to sleep at night, so lets put this theory to the test.

A good ole' foot soak is a great start, not only is it warming to the feet, but softens up any hard skin, which can be removed by a pumice stone. Employing a foot scrub will also help shift any dead cells and leave the feet feeling softer after you've soaked them for about 10 minutes.

When you've done with the soak, make sure you pat your feet dry especially between the toes.

Next choose a deep moisturising cream or butter. Foot cleansers and cream tend to have cooling properties and natural ingredients to help them stay soft and smell fresh.

If you are planning to have a pedicure or paint your own nails, take an cuticle stick and gently push back your toe nail cuticles. Also if they are looking more like talons than feet, now is the perfect time to trim your nails. Cut the nail straight across as this prevents and nails growing inwards-ouch!

Finally as a daily treat, smother your feet in moisturiser before you go to bed and wear a pair of soft cotton socks, this will help the cream soak into your feet and in the morning you can spring out of bed onto gorgeous soft paws.

Now, time for my foot soak

Natural Warmers

We're really feeling the cold today in the Naked Body Care office, no matter how much tea we drink or how many clothes we wear we're still cold!

So, I've taken it upon myself to discover what foots and natural methods you can use to warm up those bones!

Starting from foods, the following list of foods have been proved to warm the body from the inside out. This process of creating warmth in the body is called Thermogenisis.

Hot Peppers- These stimulants contain natural chemicals which raise the body temperature

Black Pepper- Again influences Thermogenisis in the body

Ginger- Not only great for bad stomachs and to get rid of headaches, Ginger warms the body

Green Tea- Packed with anti oxidants, Green Tea is an incredibly healthy drink and warm you up from the inside, you can sweeten a cup with organic honey

Coconut Oil- A great way of getting your natural recommend amount of daily fats and also increases your body temperature.

If you have a sedentary job like sitting in an office, get up and move around as much as possible, make a fist with one hand and roughly rub all over your arms, chest and back, this increases the circulation of blood, which rises to the skins surface.

Yoga is a great exercise to increase blood flow and keep you warm, so before you grab your lunch, try a couple of downward dogs in the office to get the blood flowing again and warm the body, you'll be nicely surprised.

Ultimately if you do really suffer from the cold, dress sensibly. Big thick knitted jumpers do not trap the heat, you need lots of thin layers to trap the warmth and thermals are a great base layer!

Keep warm and snug with our fabulous tips!

Traditional or new cleansing

All hail the traditional methods of cleansing... oh but hang on a moment! What are these new methods of attaining fabulous clean skin?

Wow, it can be so confusing. Personally for years I, like many women used soap and water to wash my face. It was incredibly drying, thank goodness in the last 20 years beauty products have come a long way since those times.

The Victorians thought very strangely about women and their beauty. Women were meant to be powerless, yet their beauty could cast a spell over a powerful man which could make those women quite dangerous. Independent women on the other hand were scary and sometimes labelled insane.

The Victorians began their beauty routines with bathing, products were hand made and passed down through generations. Natural fats and oils were used to help moisturise the skin and prevent illness.

Today some companies still use these products rather than chemicals to help promote healthy skin. In terms of modern beauty products I always wonder how good face wipes are. Imagine the Victorians grabbing these out of their bags for a quick face refresh.

Face wipes are brilliant for removing makeup, but I wouldn't keep it to just that, in fact I always feel I've kind of smothered the makeup all over my face, so I always cleanse and tone afterwards and finish with a moisturiser.

This ensures my face is squeaky clean. Now, we don't want to go removing all those natural oils that protect the skin on our faces and stops the skin from drying out. So choosing a natural and gentle cleanser is your best option.

From old to new, there are some things that will never change, but can be continually improved on.

A good beauty routine, especially cleansing and moisturising will keep your skin in check and it is good to sometimes try new products and methods.

Veggie Christmas

Nut Roast. Those two words probably strike fear into thousands of vegetarians when it comes to the choice of meal for the festive dinner.

Thank goodness we have moved on from Nut Roast, maybe some vegetarians quite like a bit of nut roast, but for those who would rather eat the wrapping paper, Naked Body Care scoured the internet for a few alternative solutions for the Veggies and Vegans in your life.

You can find a huge range of vegetarian and vegan dishes on-line from your favourite celebrity chefs, but we have chosen our favourites.

We love:

Roast Nut Squash and Sweet Potato Soup with Buttermilk Blue Cheese Sauce from Nigella Lawson

Fig and Blue Cheese Tart from Sarah Cook

Leek and Potato Strudel from the Hairy Bikers

Toad in the hole by Anthony Worrall Thompson

These are just a minute few of our favourite vegetarian recipes.

For Vegans, try Chesnut, Roasted Butter Nut Squash and Bramley Apple Soup from The Hairy Bikers and treat yourselves to a Mulled Wine.

It doesn't have to stop there, after your fabulous festive dinner, you can whip out some present that are vegetarian and vegan freindly such as the whole range from Naked Body Care, yes we don't do things by halves.

So if you know a veggie or vegan in your family or circle of friends, make their Christmas extra special with a gormet treat and presents that will put a great big smile on their faces.

We Love Millie Pembleton!

Here at Naked HQ, we love that we’re small and a tad quirky... and we love finding people like us. So when we had a chance to run a competition AND a special offer with lovely Naked Nutter, Emily Chapple (seen her on Facebook loving the products? Thought so!), with her gorgeous jewellery range Millie Pembleton, we just couldn’t (and didn’t want to) say no.

Initially, Emily set up Millie Pembleton as her own little shop by the seaside in Brighton - a place to sell her handmade vintage jewellery alongside products from likeminded independent designers. The jewellery was a big hit, so Emily decided to create her own jewellery range from scratch and concentrate on just selling her own products online.

We utterly ADORE her jewellery! We have some of her beautiful designs firmly etched on our Christmas lists. We especially love this gorgeous Gingerbread Man...

... And she’s been seen in Vogue with this gorgeous Hot Air Balloon, so we don’t think it’s going to be long until she’s in high demand.

She has kindly given us her gorgeous Kite necklace, pictured above & worth £26, to give away. To have a chance to win, simply tell us below where was Emily's shop?

She is also offering Naked fans a special 20% off until next Monday – fab for a jump on your Christmas shopping!

Festive Beauty for your barnet

Last night I decided to cut my fringe, it was getting slightly "Claudia Winkleman" and falling in my eyes so I thought it would be better to trim it now ready for the festive season, I feel like a bit of a Bettie Page pin up now but I didn't do such a bad job. I am meant to be growing my hair out for bridesmaid duties next year, so the back is long but I still sport the fringe, its taken me years to find a style that suits me so why not flaunt it a little longer. Anyway, it got me thinking about festive hair, and hair styles for the Christmas Party season.

I would love to re create the Audrey Hepburn up do with fringe, or the Sarah Jessica Parker large messy bun style, but I'm probably going to end up, same as always, down with fringe, maybe a slight twist with soft curls or waves.

Whatever I intend on doing, I need to invest in some products to help style and keep the barnet in place.

After years of dying and straightening my hair I had to take precautions to get my hair back to its healthy shiny nourished state, so now I try not to use any harsh products, but natural hair care and styling.

Naked is perfect for just this, their range is 97% natural and harnesses plants and minerals from nature to produce incredible results.

Curls and waves are in this winter, so tame them and make them look slick and shiny with Naked Curl Taming Cream. Fishtail plaits are also in and look very cool, finish the plait with some Naked Fix It Fast- Natural Hold Hairspray.

If you're a smooth operator, make sure you stay that way while you party all night with award winning Naked- Smoothing Serum.

Hair can be tricky, so you need patience, a great brush and some amazing Kirb Grips, there are plenty of tips and tricks on-line to help you achieve that fabulous party barnet.

Get rid of those bags

It's time to get rid of those bags, and I'm not talking about the dark circles under your eyes, we're talking about plastic bags. At Naked we're on a mission to minimise the use of plastic bags, especially around this time of year, when shopping is a must for the festive season, thats why we've produced our own "I'm a Naked shopper" Re-usable cotton bag.

At just £2.00 this bag is fantastic, it folds up to a tight bundle which can fit in a handbag, pocket or car glovebox, it holds a lot of shopping, its strong, its sturdy and it won't let you down.

Plus we think it will put a smile of a few peoples faces this festive season. We joined forces with Oxfam to support the Shinyanga project in Tanzania. Through this project 10,000 people will benefit from cleaner water and sanitation, for every Naked bag sold, £1 will be donated to Oxfam.

Do something brilliant this season. Using the "I'm a Naked shopper" bag will reduce waste and the profits go to a great cause.

Hands that do dishes

Hands that do dishes, unless wearing rubber gloves can come under a lot of stress and strain from a range of chemicals.

My mother, for as long as I can remember, has suffered with incredibly dry hands, yet I don't seem to have contracted what ever it is, maybe I don't wash up enough, but for years hand lotion bottles have been dotted around the house and in the car to ensure an endless supply of moisture to her dry chapped hands.

I find it curious as her fingers split at the end which can be incredibly painful. So over decades and through thousands of different products and ways to drench her hands with moisture, she still suffers.

Dry and cracked hands can leave sufferers in great discomfort especially during the winter months. It's amazing what chores can dry out your hands from cleaning the house to reading the paper. So what are the best ways to help nourish hands once more? Obviously using a hand cream is a great start, you need something that will penetrate the layers of skin and keep them feeling moisturised all day long.

One traditional way of keeping hands soft is by smothering the hands in cream and wearing cotton gloves to bed, this process helps all the cream be absorbed by the hands, and you will wake up with incredibly soft hands.

Some of the hand creams available on the market, although very nourishing, can be incredibly greasy, which is the last thing you want when you're working at a computer or trying to get on with everyday chores.

Looking to nature is always a great option to help combat skin problems, especially if you have tried numerous products on the markets. These products, although claiming to help your poor hands, still could contain chemicals which irritate the skin.

Mama Naked Positivity Hand Cream

Luckily Naked Body Care offers Mama Naked Positivity Hand Cream. A gorgeous nourishing cream for busy mums, with uplifting notes of Mandarin. Naked is 97% natural and harnesses the power of plants and minerals so you know you can't go wrong. Try smoothing some Positivity Hand Cream into your hands after a busy day, and enjoy the soothing nourished feeling of soft hands.

Veggie Goodness

We've known for years that eating a vegetarian diet really does have its pros, mainly because of the intake of fresh fruit and vegetables. The constant eating of fruit and veg increases the antioxidants in your body and cuts down on the amount of fat consumed. It can even help keep blood sugar stable and at a sensible limit.

Some Vegetarians will still consume animal products such as eggs and dairy as well as the occasional fish eater. Vegans do not partake in the consumption of any animal products and have quite a strict diet. Fortunately vegetarian meals and products have improved over the past decade, providing substitues through soya protein, which again is an incredibly healthy way to eat. Some may think that Vegetarians would not get the nutrients they need, but most are incredibly healthy and opt for vitamins to boost their intake.

So how far do you take vegetarianism and vegan-ism? Some people will not wear animal products such as leather shoes, hand bags or coats. Some only purchase organic materials such as cotton and so on. What about beauty products? Make up, shower gels, shampoos and conditioners are now available for Vegetarians and Vegans. You don't miss out, in fact products from brands such as Naked ensure that you are giving your body and skin the best treatment using completely natural products, harnessing nature to produce incredible effects.

So whether you are vegetarian or vegan, yes meat eaters love to throw the book and point the finger making a bit of a joke out of your choice, but actually you've chosen a very healthy way to live, and you don't have to miss out, take a look at the range of Naked Products suitable for Vegetarians and Vegans.

We've all been getting a bit hyper on fizzy drinks and cakes, charging around the room and wearing our “I AM 6” badge with pride... can you believe that we are now six years old?!  We have been indulging in the most awesome amount of PRESENTS, but you will be pleased to know that we have indeed SAVED some. After last years “pin the nose on the Naked bunny” we thought we’d spread the love and get you lot involved in **party games** as you are all pretty superb.

We thought about Naked Musical Statues, but quickly realised that we might get into trouble. So we settled on PASS THE NAKED PARCEL. And here’s how it’s going to work...

1. We’re going to PASS a virtual PARCEL that has twelve lovely layers. The parcel will be passed around Facebook, Twitter and our lovely blog and we’ll give you clues as to where the parcel will be landing and on what day so you can be in with a chance of unwrapping a layer with a **special prize**. The prizes range from a fabulous Naked product to special birthday sweets, to a gift voucher for the Naked website to THE BRILLIANT MIDDLE!

2. You need to enter each round of passing the parcel to win. sometimes there might be questions about our Naked history... other times you'll just need to tell us you love us...

3. If we "see your name" as the music stops then you will WIN. So your timing will be important. We'll help you out with some idea of when it might stop so you can make sure you're entering at the right time...

If you’re with us... we’re about to start the music.... (circa 2005)...

We're kicking off on Facebook. So join us there...!

The Original Naked Nutters

Now, we know that you love Naked, so we thought it would be good for you to find out a little more about the team behind who makes the products... here’s a quick little snippit of who we are and what we’ve been up to lately...

Lucy is the Senior Brand Manager on Naked and we love her. She’s the one who came up with ALL the NEW PRODUCTS this year including all the hair products, Naked Skin, Naked for Kids, Mini and Mama. WOW... listing it down it’s pretty amazing stuff. Lucy is currently on holiday, so she didn’t get a say about us saying how amazing she is... she’ll probably blush when she’s back...

Naked is Leanne’s baby... she’s been working on Naked practically since infancy. But Leanne has recently popped off to have her OWN REAL BABY. Taylor was born on June 9th this year, so we’re sure she’s currently relaxing in the bath with Mama Naked Calming Bath Foam whenever she gets a chance.

Naked for Kids Orange Lollies fan Helen has amazing hair (so we’re ALL considering using Orange Lollies now) and is the Naked Assistant Brand Manager. She’s working on some REALLY EXCITING THINGS coming up (one might start with an “s” end with a “b” and have “cru” in the middle). Helen is off to Barcelona tomorrow. Apparently on holiday.

Interestingly, Marketing Manager Alix recently discovered Naked Care shampoo and conditioner and can’t get over the transformation in the condition of her scalp, which used to be irritating. Alix has grand plans for NAKED WORLD DOMINATION and is very excited about some upcoming plans. She also interacts with you all on Facebook, but this week has been a little (vocally) quieter than usual because....

Elaine, Assistant Marketing Manager is IN GREECE GETTING MARRIED. She got married yesterday (shown here with H2B) and we can’t wait to see the pictures (we'll see if she'll let us pop one up for you too). She of course pampered herself silly with everything Naked before she went, and is truly in love with her Thirst Aid Moisturiser.

And finally, Anthea is the person you’ll generally speak to in customer services. She’s our office manager and generally excellent person for all stuff Naked. Multi-talented Anthea is actually a makeup artist too (handy for office parties) and a fan of Bare Faced Cheek to keep her skin lovely, clear and radiant.

And that’s your lot for now... we’ll do another update very soon introducing you to the sales and ops teams who make sure that Naked is available in as many places as possible. They are REAL unsung Naked heroes...

The Twilight Years

We’ve had some sadness expressed over the recent “missing” status of some of our Naked products. Some of these items have been with us for a long time and they’ve worked hard and been fabulous, but unfortunately now need to retire. We hope this won’t be the end of the products for good, but are fearing the worst after they've recently shared some action packed plans for their future...

Be Smooth Naked will be Island Hopping in the Carribean before a visit to the 7 wonders of the world. You can stay smooth with Coco De Mer Body Butter (it’s mmm mmm good) and keep a lookout for some other special new products coming up.

Wake Up White Ginger body wash is off to tour New Zealand and participate in some high octane adrenalin action. If you want to keep the zing first thing, we’d suggest trying out Get Fresh Minty body wash to get you going.

Naked Detox Shampoo and Conditioner are retiring together, off to India to participate in a yoga retreat. They’ve left their legacy in the new Naked Detox 2-in-1 Shampoo.

Scrub Up Naked is expanding his horizons and has learnt Spanish these past few months. He’s off to live in Spain and fulfil his dream of going to La Tomatina in Valencia to help “scrub up” after the giant tomato fight in August. Buff Up Naked is on a mission to keep himself trim, so is in marathon training and is also considering a bicycle ride from LA to New York. We’re working on some scrubby replacements for both Buff Up and Scrub Up so watch this space.

De-Stress Naked worked herself so hard that she actually became quite stressed out herself. She’s planning to take up golf as an outlet. If you still need to de-stress, we suggest Melt Away Naked as a soothing bath treat in replacement.

Honey and Orange Hand and Body Lotion have decided to cultivate bees in their retirement as a thank you for giving them some amazing honey over the years. They’ll be planting lavender in the park once they get council permission. To keep hands clean and soft, try out Starflower.

As a big thank you to some of the most hardcore Naked fans, we’ve found a couple of boxes of some of the old Naked faves. We only have a **very limited number** left. For your chance to WIN one of the retired products, comment below and tell us what new products you’d like to see. The most interesting ideas will win. Good luck!

Naked for Kids... From the mouths of babes

Ooooooh... hasn't it been exciting at Naked HQ of late with all the fabulous new yummy treats we've had? Anyone who is a fan on Facebook will have seen our brand new range for kids, which is currently taking the bathtime world by storm (as in FEWER TANTRUMS... we like), but we thought it would be good to formally introduce you to Naked's latest little rascals... Three brand new 2-in-1 shampoos, and a lovely detangling spray.

Enter JAM SANDWICHES... A fun alternative to sticky lunchbox leftovers, this yummy berry treat gives lovely soft hair after just one wash.  For best results finish with a big soft towel and a cuddle.

Next Up is BANANAS AND CUSTARD... We used to pick the bananas out of the custard when we were small. We now think squishing them up and using their goodness with other natural wonders now makes for healthy hair.

And now it's Mr TOFFEE APPLE... the sweetness of toffee and the fruity goodness of apples. A perfect combination for persuading kids to get into the bath or shower. Works into a feather soft lather for squeaky clean hair.

Then for the tangled tresses of your tinies, ORANGE LOLLIES makes hair easier to comb so there are fewer tantrums, and with the scent of orange lollies we can almost hear the ice cream van coming!

Anyway, enough about us….. what we really wanted to know is what the experts (i.e. KIDS and MUMS) think of the new range. So we got together a little (in size and number!) panel of testers and here’s what they said:

"I like the red jam shampoo. I love jam sandwiches and jammy dodgers so it's fun to smell like them! It made my hair really smooth too."
Charlie

"Custard is one of my favourite puddings and the nana and custard shampoo smelt really custard-y, so that's good. My hair feels really clean and my brother keeps smelling my head."
Joe

"Can definitely smell the custard, and that's the best bit of bananas and custard."
Sam

“The spray felt funny on my head. It’s fun to spray”
Lucy

“Apples yummmmmy”
Holly

And a word from the mummies..

“The shampoo smells great. Also ‘apple’ is one of the words Holly can say so has helped her with learning words as well as cleaning her hair!”

“The de-tangle product works really well – Lucy’s hair definitely wasn’t as knotted as it usually is after I wash it”

“I love these products.  My little one, Sam, hates having his hair washed with a passion – it’s always a trauma for him in the morning, and yet now that we have the Naked Kids stuff, I found him washing his own hair at the weekend.  It’s enough to keep me buying it…..result!”

“We have the jam sandwich shampoo, my 3 year old has eczema so have always said no when he’s asked for a kid’s shampoo. He loves it and his skin’s been fine, never makes a fuss either when rinsing like he did before, smells lovely too. May just have to try another scent next time”

“We've used the toffee apple. Love it! My daughter has v thick hair down to the bottom of her shoulder blades. I can honestly say it's the only 2-in-1 we've ever tried that actually leaves her hair feeling like it has been conditioned! Not to mention that it's sooo shiny and has more bounce than your average kangaroo! :-)”

“My sons love the jam sandwiches shampoo so much; they use it as a body wash and bubble bath too. Another Naked winner in our house!”

We LOVE that everyone loves it... in fact, we've even had reports of DADS and HUSBANDS stealing some shampoo (exagerrated gasps all round). If you've been using Naked for Kids, we'd love to hear your thoughts! Share with is please!!!

Magical Maldives

Naked recently went tripping around the world and on its travels found itself on the beautiful islands of the Maldives with one of our Naked Team! Rachel Parsonage and her husband Dave visited for their honeymoon this year after getting married in Christmas 2010! Rachel loved using her Naked body wash after a long day on the beach or moisturising with 24 Hr Naked Coco De Mer Body Butter after a hard day in the sun!

Now here's a geography lesson for you... The Maldives are located in the Indian Ocean (I know we would all love to be there now... wake up... stop dreaming!) It consists of approximately 1,190 coral islands grouped in a double chain of 26 atolls, spread over roughly 90,000 square kilometers (wowsers,) making this one of the most disparate countries in the world. Composed of live coral reefs and sand bars, the atolls are situated atop a submarine ridge 960 kilometers long that rises abruptly from the depths of the Indian Ocean and runs from north to south (we will test you at the end!)

Rachel is a bit of an adrenaline junkie and you will most likely find her taking part in a beach or water activity than quietly sunbathing and watching the tranquil Maldivian way of life pass her by! Rachel and her new husband spent their days exploring the wonderful turquoise waters of their island by diving from morning till night! They had an amazing time diving and although the Maldives are known the world over for the stunning beaches and azure waters that typify the tropical idyll, its life beneath the water's surface is becoming ever more respected by divers. The Maldive Islands have some amazing coral reefs, but it's the abundance of fish life that sets it apart from many other dive destinations.

If you ever get a chance to dive in the Maldives look out for Napoleon wrasse, parrotfish, snappers, barracudas, jacks and sweetlips! In the channels, you can explore the caves, caverns and overhangs where soft corals proliferate, and there are colourful sponges, invertebrates and gorgonian fans… sounds amazing! There are also plenty of cleaning stations where cleaning wrasses and shrimps service the larger marine species.

Slightly removed from the reefs, you are likely to spot the pelagics that frequent the Maldives, including manta rays and eagle rays and a variety of sharks including the mighty whale shark, (which Rachel got very close to…only 15metres... she’s a brave lady our Rachel!)

Wherever you look there is likely to be something of interest going on and for many it is in the shallows where the best of the action takes place! Here the clear water, brightly illuminated by the sun's rays and playing host to great numbers of fish, provides an ideal environment both for photographers and divers alike!

During the El Niño of 1998 some shallower areas of the coral reefs have been adversely affected by bleaching - where the colour reduces and looks as if the coral is dead.  It’s not dead but can take up to 10 years to become vibrant again! Now there’s a fact for you!

However the accepted view is that while the reefs are returning to their former colourful glory, the marine life has never dwindled and indeed many believe it has increased in numbers over the past few decades. In a step towards becoming environment-friendly, the Maldivian government unveiled plans in 2010 to designate three whale shark habitats in the Maldives as protected areas. The allocated protected areas include Baa atoll Hanifaru, Baa atoll An’gafaru and Alif Dhaal atoll Maamigili as protected areas to commemorate World Environment Day and World Ocean Day.

The main objective of the project was to protect the areas mega fauna, namely whale sharks and manta rays. Naked prides ourselves on supporting these protected areas. Tourism is helping the Maldives, particularly where hotels and wildlife charities are involved with conservation. Many islands and reefs are protected from fishing and boats mooring to stabilise the coral and wildlife. Just goes to show when you visit these islands as tourists there’s a lot going on above and below the shore than meets the eye!

Groupon: A Little Help

Well... Groupon has certainly been very popular, hasn't it? We've been seriously flattered by all the attention blush... We hope that our current Naked nutters enjoy the special deal and that all the newbies enjoy popping their Naked cherry.

This is the first time we've ever run anything like this, we're doing our best but we know it's not been ideal for some of you. Hopefully we can answer some of the questions we've been getting and help you on your way to redeeming your vouchers.

How to redeem on the Naked Website.
Firstly, select all the Naked goodies you want and then view your basket. At the bottom of the page, there is a box where you can input a promotional code. This is where you need to put in your Groupon code. Make sure you hit "Apply Code" before proceeding to checkout as shown in the picture below:

Your page will refresh and show a green bar showing the code has been input successfully, as shown in the picture below. Your new total complete with the discount will show at the bottom of the page. You can then proceed to checkout. If you have any issues, please contact us and we will be able to help.

Getting what you want.
It's true that there have been some stock issues and we are REALLY sorry for any inconvenience that this is causing. We have had a BIG order that is now online, so we hope that you'll be able to find what you want over this weekend. There have been issues on a couple of the products: Angelica Bath Foam and Thirst Aid are two products that we are struggling with. We do have another delivery that will be available on Wednesday morning (delivered and available online) if you want to wait for these items.

We've been contacted by a few of you saying that in the past you've been forced to order things you haven't necessarily wanted because of stock issues with other Groupon offers: all we can say is to please don't panic if something you want isn't in stock as we're trying our best to make sure there's enough of everything by the time the voucher expires on June 5th. We love ALL Naked products, so if you can't wait, we are sure that you'll love whatever you choose!

And Finally
We hope that you'll all love the products, and that you've LOVED the money saving you've had from the deal! If we can help in any way, please just let us know.

The Naked team visits Shinyanga

Here at Naked we love doing our bit, and so in 2010, Naked partnered with Oxfam to help support their Shinyanga Project, which is all about tackling the education and sanitation issues in one of the most deprived regions of Tanzania.

Oxfam was a perfect partner as they share our ethical values, and most of our products are around washing and bathing, so clean water is something very close to our hearts.

Through the 3 year ‘Drop of joy’ project, 10,000 people will benefit through:

·         Building rainwater tanks and latrines in schools

·         Building wells for the communities

·         Training new teachers and mentors

·         Supply materials to special needs schools

So in February this year, two of the Naked team went out to Shinyanga along with the Oxfam team to see how the project is going.

Earth Day

Earth Day is a day that is intended to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's natural environment. Earth Day was first held on April 22, 1970, it is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network, and is celebrated in more than 175 countries every year, pretty impressive stuff!

We’ve come up with some ideas in which you can help take action and help protect the planet by doing your bit.
· Become a paperless office
· Recycle all plastic and glass bottles, tins and cardboard
· Plant a vegetable patch
· Use Cotton shopping bags, such as The Naked Shopper
· Change your light bulbs to low energy ones
· Eat more local food from your friendly neighborhood butcher or greengrocer
· Use paper bags (or not at all) instead of plastic bags when buying fruit & veg at the supermarket
· Wash your clothes at a cool temperature & hang them out to dry instead of using the tumble drier
· Take shorter showers and less baths
· Instead of driving short distances walk instead
· Switch of the tap whilst brushing your teeth
· Use rechargeable batteries

Pretty In Pastel

We know it's been London Fashion Week this week, but we've been more preoccupied with what's in the shops now that we can buy! We had such a sunny day yesterday, it feels like summer is just on the horizon (if you really strain your eyes!). We think it’s about time our frowns got turned upside down, with the help of some colour. With this year’s spring/summer trend set to be focused on pastels, we’ve picked out our favourite pieces to turn your pasty winter into a rainbow summer of pale pinks and baby blues.

Want to brighten up your face? Take inspiration from SS11 shows such as Mulberry and Paul&Joe, where pastel shades were used on eyes and cheeks to give that warm spring glow. Keep eyes dreamy with pale turquoise or sky blue for that angelic look, we love Max Factors Precision eye shadow in Stardust.

Models Own are bang on trend with their range of polishes, guaranteed to brighten up any mood, and starting at only £5 a bottle you can’t go wrong!

Pastel shades don’t just stop there though. Gone are the days of boring blue denims, as seen on celebrities such as Katy Perry and Fearne Cotton, and instead jeans are replaced with brighter more daring colours, such as mint green and pale yellows. Don’t fancy candy coloured legs? Try brightening up your outfit with a scarf, such as this limited edition style from Miss Selfridge for just £22!

Even Le Cresuet has brought out a new range of individual casserole dishes in a range of pastel shades, so adorable they’ll brighten any kitchen!

So as you can see, pastels really are everywhere this spring! Until then though why not cheer yourself up with a bath, using Naked’s own Starflower bath foam, in a cheeky pastel purple shades. We’re so on trend.

Cheap As Chips!

It seems there is a week for everything but this is our favourite yet...National Chip Week! Going strong and celebrating its 20th anniversary we pay homage and salute the humble chip that gave us fish and chips, pie and chips, cheesy chips...you get the idea.

As a nation we’ve been enjoying chips for more than 150 years, and according to chip fans everywhere it’s 73% down to their taste, 20% tempting aroma and 7% texture.
Chip’s have also developed quite a line up and can be found hiding in several disguises including the original french fry, potato wedge, curly fry, and more sophisticated oven baked chip.

But what’s our favourite condiment to go with chips?
The traditional chip shop swear by good old fashioned vinegar, salt and pepper, all wrapped in newspaper to give added flavour. But the household favourite tomato ketchup and best friend mayonnaise are slowly creeping into the picture to steal the limelight.

Some fun chip facts.....

- A quarter of all the potatoes that are grown in Britain are made into chips – and it takes 45,000 Wembley Stadium football pitches to grow all the potatoes needed for the chips eaten in Great Britain each year.

- Just over 10% of the British potato crop is needed to supply our 10,500 chip shops – that’s about 422,600 tonnes

- Laid end to end, all the British potatoes that are turned into chips every year would stretch around the world a staggering 76 times

So why not treat yourself this week and tuck into one of Britain’s favourite takeaway’s.

The bigger the breakfast the better the brain

The BIGGER the Breakfast the BETTER the Brain!

Everybody knows that breakfast is the most important meal of the day...but do you know why and do you eat it every morning?

National Farmhouse Breakfast week starts on the 24th January and is now in its 10th year. The campaign was designed as a way to get all us Brits eating a healthy, balanced breakfast to start our day at our optimum levels. 1 in 4 of us are the naughty ones who miss our breakfast and would prefer that extra 10 minutes in bed, here at Naked we’re putting a stop to this.

Bring on the breakfast!

Gone are the days of burnt toast and stale soggy cornflakes! Now people are taking a much healthier approach to breakfast, enjoying fruit and yogurt, or a healthy wholesome porridge that will keep you going until lunchtime.

Here are four reasons why you should always be good and eat your breakfast...

• Breakfast eaters tend to be slimmer than breakfast skippers.
• Eating breakfast can aid concentration and mental performance at work and at school.
• It provides you with the nutrients and energy needed for an active lifestyle.
• Research shows that breakfast eaters are less depressed and have lower levels of stress than breakfast skippers.

For more information on how you can get involved, and even find some delicious healthy alternatives to the average boring breakfast, visit http://www.shakeupyourwakeup.com.
To show our support we’ve joined up with the yummy Dorset Cereals who have given us porridge sachets and breakfast bars to giveaway. Visit our Facebook page to find out more .

1, 2, 3 Ways to Great Skin in 2011

You asked for it... and so we gave it to you. New for 2011, Naked Skin is here. Hurrah!

At Naked, we think that great skin care should be simple and good for everyone. Naked Skin is just that. Super easy to use and 97% natural, all our new skin saviours are fragrance & alcohol free, and have also been dermatologist tested and clinically tested for sensitive types.

To get the most out of Naked Skin, we use a simple three in three rule: three steps in three minutes, job done. It's perfect as a new years resolution you can actually keep.

Minute 1: Cleanse
A cleanse is as good as a rest. We’ve got 2 fab cleansing options: Perfect Getaway Cream Cleanser and Barefaced Cheek Facial Wash, so whether you’re a cream queen or a foam fan, there’s something for you. One minute, twice a day, with either product - you’ll really see the difference. We promise.

Minute 2: Tone
Ask any girl with great skin what she uses, and there’s bound to be a toner in the mix. Our Up Tone Girl is great for a number of reasons: it removes any last traces of cleanser, refines pores, softens the skin and prepares your skin for the main event: moisturisation!

Minute 3: Moisturise
Everyone needs a great moisturiser and here it is: Thirst Aid. It’s got some great stuff in it: Argan Oil, a master hydrator that’s also known for warding off wrinkles, Shea Butter for smashingly smooth skin... all packed into a dermatologist tested crème to keep skin in tip top condition.

We know as a daily necessity for great skin, being affordable is key: so Naked Skin starts at just £4.49 for cleansers and toners, and our Thirst Aid 12 Hour Moisturiser (which is frankly MASSIVE in a 100ml jar) is a snip at just £7.49.

Take on the three steps in three minutes challenge: we don’t think you’ll be disappointed with the results! Let us know how you get on. If you need any more tips or have any questions on the products or the regime, please let us know! Comment below or email us at info@nakedbodycare.co.uk.

New Season, New Year... New Naked Skin!

We all make New Year’s resolutions and often we all break them after a month or ‘adapt’ them so we don’t feel like we’ve failed! Here are the most popular top 12 resolutions we all endeavour to keep each year...

1. Enjoy life more
2. Lose weight / go on a diet
3. Get fit / start exercising
4. Learn something new
5. Find true love
6. Get a better job
7. Save money
8. Pay off debts
9. Take a trip
10. Reduce stress
11. Spend more time with family and friends
12. Quit smoking or Drink Less

Well the Naked Team have a new one to add to the list; improve your skin care regime!

Skin care is something we should take seriously...after all our skin is our biggest organ but yet so many of us don’t pay it the proper attention it deserves. Our skin is screaming out to be cleaned, toned and moisturised correctly and the benefits are huge, especially in latter life!

We’d like to introduce you to the latest members of our pack that are going to revolutionise your skincare regime; It’s NEW Naked SKIN (hurrah)

It’s as simple as A B C or Step 1 2 3!

Step 1 – Cleanse: Perfect Getaway Cream Cleanser is a silky smooth operator full of famous faces; aloe vera, well known for soothing and hydrating is joined by cocoa butter which helps soften the skin and ginseng provides a little extra radiance to leave you super clean and fresh faced.

Step 2 – Tone: Up Tone Girl is our gentle toner that uses a little witch craft...and natural witch hazel to beautifully condition the skin and leave your pores refined. We’ve also added friendly calendula to the brew formulated for sensitive, delicate skin to soothe and protect.

Step 3 – Moisturise: Thirst Aid 12hour Moisturiser has a beautiful creamy texture that is quickly absorbed...plus it has all our favourite things in! We have a crush on shea butter as it’s amazing at keeping your skin soft and smooth but you can also find helpful starflower, neroli and argan oil extracts for hydrating and improving the skins radiance.

Unfortunately our Naked Rose Softening Face Wash and Jojoba Gentle Exfoliating Face Wash have had to retire due to overwork! But we will have a new Bare Faced Cheek Softening Face Wash joining our new line up shortly. It will still be packed with soothing rose oil to leave your skin feeling touchably soft and Damask Rose which is bursting with antioxidants to fight free radicals. Watch this space for news!  In the meantime, if you're a big fan of the old Naked Rose Softening Face Wash, don't miss out on our 12 days of Christmas Bonanza: he will be featuring on Sunday so make sure you follow us on Twitter and Facebook for details on how to stock up.

And now it's prize time! To revolutionise your New Year we are offering 2 sets of our NEW Naked Skin line if you can answer this question...

How many tonnes of Naked rose petals did we used in our old friend, Naked Rose Softening Wash?

Good Luck

Too Hot To Handle

National curry week runs from the 21st-27th of November and can often result in many hot mouths, spluttering and water gulping (although milk or yogurt is actually better). The official appreciation begun in 1998 in order to promote the cuisine and to raise funds for charities concentrating on hunger, malnourishment and poverty.

During the week curry consumption of your favourite korma, pasanda or vindaloo (go on we dare you) is a must, it’s a great excuse to try a new dish and sample a different culture at your local restaurant, deli or takeaway.

The popular Poppadum Tower Challenge is always a favourite restaurant game over the week and one to recreate at the dinner table, however there are strict rules! The Tower must be on a plate or similar no bigger than 10” in diameter and be completely unsupported for at least 10 seconds, poppadoms must also be cooked and not half eaten...

The official Guinness record stands at 1.48m!

To celebrate National Curry Week we have linked up with Rachel’s Organic, visit our facebook page at www.facebook.com/NaturalBodycare to see how you can WIN Jamie Oliver’s new 30 minute meal book and Rachel’s Organic goodies. Nothing beats their natural yogurt to cool your mouth down after a spicy curry!

Here Come The Girls!

A while back we asked you what you would most like to see from Naked, and your answer was natural makeup. Well although it isn’t quiet in the Naked pipeline just yet, you ask and you shall receive - we’ve had a hunt round and found organic makeup by NVEY ECO.

NVEY ECO organic makeup is created through exclusive Bio Organic formulas which use carefully selected plant and mineral ingredients, blended with natural botanical extracts and powerful antioxidants to make a pure, gentle and highly effective make-up. With an extensive colour range in foundations and powders, eyes, lips, blushers and bronzers, but most importantly all made from natural ingredients and not tested on animals (we think we’ve fallen in love). To find out more and maybe treat yourself check out their website www.nveyeco.co.uk or enter our competition below!

If you like the look of what you see and fancy trying out some of the products enter our competition to win one of five sets comprising of an Organic Eye Shadow DUO, Organic Lip Exfoliator and Organic Lip Gloss!  To enter, simply comment on this blog answering the following question:

All of our products are at least 97% natural but some are even better. What is the highest percentage of goodness we’ve managed to cram into one of our Naked bottles? (After a helping hand? The answer can be found somewhere on this website!) Good Luck!

Movember

Movember (formerly known as November) is a moustache growing charity event held annually during November. An excuse for men to grow (or at least try to grow) their facial hair whilst knowing they are helping raise funds and awareness for men’s health, in particular The Prostate Cancer Charity, TPPC.

During Movember you can spot an array of styles, from the patchy beard to the full blown handlebar moustache or even the lesser spotted goatee. Some women even join in.

Here at Naked we like a charity with a fun side so we decided to challenge our Wake Up Naked – White Ginger Body Wash to get involved and grow!

Here’s how he got on...We were quite surprised with the results.

The idea for Movember originally started in Australia, 2003, the plan was simple – to bring back the moustache and do something for men’s health. Little did they know but the Mo Bros were setting themselves on course to create a global men’s health movement.

We salute you Movember.

Bits and Bobs with Dolly Bow Bow

Here at Naked we are always on the lookout for brands with a quirky twist and whole hearted attitude, so when we had the chance to run a competition with Dolly Bow Bow we just couldn’t say no. Welcome to her pretty little world of Dolly Bow Bow....

There is something very inspiring about Kate Murnane.  She is 20, a Gemini and lives in Kent, but she also owns and runs Dolly Bow Bow all by herself from her bedroom. Not bad.
She describes Dolly Bow Bow as “a unique boutique collection of handmade eclectic vintage jewellery, inspired by everything girly, shabby and retro.” Her ranges include handmade necklaces, bracelets, earrings, rings and hair accessories.

When she isn’t busy designing her new collection and making her jewellery she also somehow finds time to run her very successful blog and popular YouTube channel. An online space where she discusses the goings on in her life and reviews cosmetics, fashion and lifestyle to her heart’s content.

We gave our Facebook fans the lucky chance to win both a Naked pamper hamper and a jewellery set from Dolly Bow Bow, by simply posting ‘we love Dolly Bow Bow’ and ‘I love Naked’ during the week, winners have been announced.

Ahoy there Sailor Jennie

We’ve been speaking with the lovely Jennie from Sailorjennie.blogspot.com, she likes cosy tea shops, flowers, literature, make up, photography and the seaside so we instantly took a liking!

Hi Jennie, thank you very much for agreeing to our mini interview!
Hi, thank you so much for asking me!
First question Tell us a bit about you? Where do you live and what do you do?
I’m Jennie, I’m 21 years old and I live beside the seaside on the south coast of England. At the moment I work part time in fashion retail while studying for an English Language & Literature degree with the Open University and dabbling with photography on the side.
We love cakes, what’s your favourite cake?
Ooh any kind of cheesecake, preferably strawberry, but I’m not fussy! You really can’t beat a good cheesecake!
Your blog is great, what made you start writing?
When I was younger I would sit and write stories for hours and read them to anyone that would listen, but as I grew up, life took over and it wasn’t something I would do anymore. When I decided to leave my photography course at University I had the opportunity to think about all the things I really wanted to do and writing was one of them. I’m not creatively minded enough to write stories anymore but I’d been reading so many well-constructed blogs about beauty, fashion & even just everyday life and they really inspired me to start my own. I never thought I’d get so many readers but I’m completely over the moon about it and very grateful for anyone that takes the time to read or comment on my posts.
We are always browsing the net for quirky things, do you have any favourite websites?
I adore http://love.givesmehope.com/ and if you’re anything like me, some of those stories will have you blubbing away! It’s a lovely website that celebrates the best parts of human nature and it never fails to make me smile!
Do you have any pets? If so tell us a bit about them?
I adore animals and over the years my family have had everything from chickens to chinchillas! I have a very elderly hamster called Bear who, if he were human, I’m sure would have a long grey beard and a walking stick. I also recently got a baby bunny called Ralphie who’s proving to be very cheeky! They really do become well-loved members of the family and I couldn’t be without them.

We see that you’re quite a beauty junkie! What are your favourite beauty brands and why?
My absolute favourite make up brand is Illamasqua. Not only do they have incredible products, there’s real substance and strong ethics behind the brand, which is something that always appeals to me. We’re presented with so-called ‘perfection’ in the media on a daily basis but the ethos behind Illamasqua is that it’s okay to be a little bit different and you can use make up to really embrace your alter ego.
Skin, hair & body care wise Naked, Good Things and Neal’s Yard are my favourites. Naked, as I’m sure everyone knows, is a brand I’ve loved for a long time for hair & body care and I don’t think I need to give any other reason as to why other than Naked are amazing! Neal’s Yard and Good Things are brands I’ve come across this year in my quest for more natural skincare products and I’m very impressed with the results I’ve had.
We’ve noticed that you’ve taken some really pretty pictures, can you share one of your favourites with us?
Thank you so much! This will always be one of my personal favourites because I associate it with so many good memories! http://www.flickr.com/photos/jennie_photography/2652984128/

If you were stuck on a desert island what Naked product would you have to bring and why?
Eep, just one?! I think I’d have to pick the sea minerals salt scrub because it exfoliates beautifully and leaves my skin feeling silky smooth & moisturised. If I could sneak in a couple more products the Coco de Mer body butter and the rose softening facial wash would be with me at all times as well because they’re gorgeous!
If you could have any superhero power what would it be?
Invisibility for sure! I’m sure it’s not the most useful of superpowers but I really wish I could borrow Harry Potter’s invisibility cloak, even just for a day.
We’ve noticed that in your blog you feature lots of natural brands. Do you prefer to use products with natural ingredients? Does your skin benefit?
Absolutely! My skin must come in to contact with enough unnatural ingredients through my love of make up and I thought it would be nice to try and use skin, hair & body care products that were more natural. Having had bad acne in the past I’m almost positive switching to mineral make up from heavy liquid foundation was one of the most beneficial things I did for my skin and I think that was the point I started to research and actively look for more natural products. Since switching up my skincare routine from harsh chemical filled products to ones with more natural ingredients my complexion has improved dramatically which I’m so happy with. I’m definitely very excited about the new Naked skincare products in the pipeline and I can’t wait to get my hands on some!

Baa-rilliant

This week was British Wool Week which may not sound particularly thrilling but it is easy to forget that wool is sustainable, biodegradable and luxurious – great for eco conscious people like us! British Wool is a natural fibre grown on beautiful British sheep breeds. As we’re all becoming more aware of our carbon footprint the use of British Wool, grown in the UK and requiring less machine power than man-made fibres is a great choice.
To celebrate our lovely British sheep and their woolly coats, The Campaign for Wool filled one of the world’s most prestigious tailoring locations, Savile Row with grass, sheep and farmers! As the sheep graze, visitors were able to learn more about the qualities of wool. An annually renewable and truly sustainable resource it is Mother Nature’s own super clever fabric. We love that it is highly functional and perfect for multiple uses (jumpers, suits even your carpet!) whilst being fully biodegradable without damaging our planet. Thank you sheep!

Check out the sheep having some fun here

Naked Get Fresh Body Wash reaches heights that others can’t reach!!

We always aim for the top with Naked products.......Our CEO, Herbie Dayal has just returned from a once in a lifetime trip to Nepal. He and some friends did a 12 day trek from Pokhara to Annapurna base camp and back. This involved going from 800m elevation to over 4100m at the base camp. With 4 to 6 hours trekking each day the going was pretty challenging but the team was rejuvenated each day with a refreshing shot of Naked Get Fresh Minty Menthol Body Wash!! As you can see from these amazing photos, Herbie holds up our ‘hero’ product at the foot of the mighty Annapurna! Herbie said ‘warm water out of a bucket after a torturous 6 hour trek was great, but combined with the minty cool Naked Body Wash, it was a luxury we all enjoyed every evening. It really re-energised us.”

If Naked can energise you at 4100m in the Himalayas, imagine what it can do on a bleary eyed Monday morning!

Hair Magazine Awards 2010

This week we got invited to a party! Not another birthday party, but the Hair magazine awards party. We’ve been working pretty hard so we decided that we deserved a night out.

We got dressed up in our best togs and made sure our hair was looking fabulous with a bit of Extra Shiny Finishing Serum and some Fix it Fast Hairspray.  We didn’t have a pumpkin and a fairy godmother so it was a quick ride on the train up to Soho where the party was getting under way.

While we mingled with the great and good of the haircare world we sampled some yummy passion fruit cocktails (just for research purposes of course!) and scoffed some delightful canapés (not a cheese and pineapple cocktail sticks in sight!)

The proceedings were hosted by Jameela Jamil and Rick Edwards from T4 who didn’t disappoint with their cute banter. Jameela looked pretty stunning in a strapless cream dress cut high at the front which she certainly pulled off with her great pins (and Rick is pretty easy on the eye too). Naked received 2 nominations but sadly not the top prize but a great achievement considering there were hundreds of entries!

The party really took off later when Paloma Faith took to the stage to spin the discs. As usual she displayed her original style with a mix of vamp and 40’s glamour style. We particularly loved her red shoe headphones!

Our pyjamas were calling so after a couple of turns on the dance floor we called it a night and headed home for some shut eye!

We heart Annie Greenabelle

September is the season for Fashion. Magazines publish their biggest issues whilst all the top editors don their skyscraper heels and board flights to London, New York, Paris and Milan to preview the big looks for next year.  All this excitement brought the inner fashionista out in us and we couldn’t miss being a part of the buzz!

Being an eco conscious company ourselves we love to support likeminded brands with the same ‘naked’ ethos and values that we build our brand by. It’s not always easy to be cool and natural, especially in the fast moving fashion world, but cute, quirky, loveable ethical clothing brand Annie Greenabelle manage it just nicely, thank you very much.

Annie Greenabelle have reinvented an enthusiasm for ethical fashion that is so difficult to find on the high-street, stopping at nothing they remind us that being on trend and ethical can go hand in hand - you can even find them in your flagship Topshop stores just to prove it!

The brand works with predominantly organic and Fairtrade certified cotton. Organic cotton is grown without chemical pesticides, defoliants or fertilisers it is now farmed in over 22 countries in the world, including many developing countries. There are already 25,000 organic cotton farmers in Africa. By farming organically, cotton farmers use viable alternatives to pesticides to protect their health. The Annie Greenabelle design team then take the cotton and mix it up with reclaimed fabrics that add variety (meaning there are never many of the same items around, so you get an almost one off piece!) . We like to think of it as the high-street becoming haute-couture, minus the price tag but with the added warm fuzzy feeling that you are consciously choosing an ethical fashion fix.

We love their new Autumn/Winter collection, its full of retro-styled, boutique pieces in duck egg blue through to soft peach, cream and slate grey - the palette is perfect for a subtle yet stylish transition to the winter season. We’re not even sorry that summers over ...we’re too busy planning our new wardrobe! We’ve teamed up with the lovely folks at Annie Greenabelle to offer all our Naked fans 15% off their fabulous range – simple visit http://www.anniegreenabelle.com/ and enter NAKED at the check out – happy shopping, let us know what you decide on!

Naked Celebrates it's 5th birthday!

At Naked, we never ignore an excuse for a party so yesterday we decided to have a modest little celebration to toast our 5th birthday! Yes - Naked has been making 97% natural, gorgeous products for 5 years!  It seems like yesterday that we started to think about how everyone was worrying about the ‘nasties’ in food we thought it was time someone looked at some of the less welcome ingredients in toiletries too. And how we’ve grown! With 49 amazing products in up to 1000 branches of Boots all over the country and a thriving website. We’re feeling very proud and even a little bit tearful!

Of course there was cake at the party! Homemade chocolate and decorated with the Naked logo and of course 100% natural and very delicious it was too! In true birthday party tradition, the candles were lit and blown out by our brand manger Lucy who wished for another 5 successful years for Naked (well that’s what she told us anyway...). There were also a few nibbles and a glass of bubbly!  Now we at Naked are pretty sophisticated bunch, especially when it comes to developing our products, but we do love and bit of chocolate cake with champers (and who doesn’t)!

Since it was a party, we had to play a few games. The highlight being ‘pin the nose of the Naked bunny’ which as you can see from the photos was not quite as easy as it looks. Once you’ve had  a couple of glasses of the hard stuff and been spun around a few times, the poor bunny’s nose ended up on his eye, on his ear or totally off target as our designer Spencer demonstrates!

All in all, it was a great afternoon – the only thing that would have made it better was if we could have invited all our lovely fans who have supported us over the last 5 years! So we want to treat you too ! If you’ve signed up for our email newsletters, then look out for an exciting new offer this month to celebrate our birthday.

Lots of Love

Naked recruits new fans!

Here in the Naked office we work pretty hard, and like most people we have to deal with some quite serious and boring stuff each day. There's all those figures on spreadsheets that we have to stare at for ages, making sure that they all add up properly. Then sometimes we have to have very long meetings with important people who want to talk about scary business stuff when we just want to play with our new products! So what really cheers us up on those days, what we really really love, is wonderful people who buy our products and then tell us how great they are. That's makes us happy (and it certainly beats kitchen duty when we have to wash up dirty dishes and wipe the surfaces!). Just recently lovely Amy wrote us the following message:

I am so pleased to have purchased a number of your products and you will be happy to know that i have not been disappointed! I hope you do not mind but i reviewed your products on my blog, if you would like to take a read you can find it here http://healthyamy.wordpress.com/2010/08/13/im-naked/ I have also made some suggestions on my wishlist for future Naked Products! I will be purchasing more products from you soon (and hopefully some of my readers will too!) Many Thanks Naked for all your gorgeous products, Amy x

And Amy has a great little blog where she raves about Naked some more, so take a look!

Then there was the delightful Donna who bought our Intensive Care Conditioner and said:

This range is fantastic. After only one wash my highlighted hair was silky, shiny and smooth again. The best treatment I have ever used. I will be using this range from now on

Lastly Tania - who sounds like she is swishing with pride,  said this about our Detox Shampoo:

I just wanteed to say that the peppermint & sorrel detox shampoo is amazing! At first I couldn't get a good lather but I know its getting rid of product and excess oils, but use it a second time and my hair feels soft and lighter in colour. Its revived the colour in my hair and its so bouncy I feel like I'm in a hair advert-its brilliant! defo buying again! xx

So please keep sending us your comments as it really makes our day!

The Naked website has a new look!

Well.... It took a lot of effort and a few long soaks in De-stress Naked Angelica bath foam but the new website is finally here! And I’m sure you’ll agree – it looks pretty snazzy! We felt that Naked fans deserved an easier to navigate, and more fun to use website since you’re been so good to us over the years. So get yourself a tea, coffee, or mug of Bovril (we’re cracking open some champers!), grasp that mouse with purpose and have a good old nose around!  Most important of all, tell us what you think! What you love, don’t love, or just what you’re having for your tea – we’re all ears!

Lots of love

Concerned about your impact on the environment?

St. Monans, Scotland (East Coast)

We recently received a lovely email from Vicky, telling us about the post she had written about Naked on her blog, Postcards from the Coast.

Within the email she asked us about the prospect of using glass in our Naked packaging, as she is very concerned about the waste that washes up on the coastline where she lives – Vicky says that lots of plastic gets washed up, but you don’t see much glass, and that actually where glass is in the sea, it eventually turns into a smooth piece that is popular with beachcombers for its prettiness.

We know many of you want to try and do your bit for the environment and minimise the amount of waste we all create, so we thought you might be interested to know a bit more about Naked’s policy on packaging.

1.Safety  – many people buy Naked to use on their children and therefore we strive to use packaging that is as safe as possible to use in the bathroom

2. When Naked was first founded, Louise Potts, as the founder did a lot of extensive research into recycling and after many conversations with recycling authorities such as Recoup about the pros and cons of both materials, she decided on plastic for Naked

3. We believe that recycling is a bit like karma – what goes around comes around. Wherever possible, we try and use 100% recycled plastic in our packaging, and since May 2009 all bottles have been made from at least 50% recycled plastic.  This is quite a leap forward for us and for the industry, as recycled plastic is quite tricky to use with toiletries.  But we hope that now we have proved it can work from a stability point of view, that other manufacturers might also consider it (although it is a more expensive option)

We know that there are so many different facets to consider when trying to decrease the impact on the environment.  We’re not sure that there is one perfect option, which is frustrating!  Naked, therefore, decided to focus on the recycling side of things, as it was something that was close to the founder’s heart.  It is something we are always trying to improve, and so we constantly monitor what’s going on in the industry and what new options there might be out there.

Why not read Vicky’s full blog post at Postcards from the Coast or find out more about Naked

Naked's Guide To A New You

As you can see our Naked Website has had a bit of a make over! There’s nothing like a bit of pampering to get you feeling brand new, that’s why we’ve pulled together a little guide on how to create your very own home spa ( don’t worry it doesn’t involve any major building works).

First, we recommend creating a calm environment so you can truly relax ( this may mean turning off your phone, kicking out your other half and bribing any children you may have)  Light a candle, dig out your favourite CD and get ready for some “Me Time”.
As it’s out with the old and in with the new, we recommend a good body scrub to get rid of your dead skin cells and reveal the healthy glowing skin underneath.  Take a handful of our Scrub Up Naked Sea Salt Scrub and buff away all over your body. The exfoliating properties of sea salt combined with the seaweed nutrients promote skin cell renewal. Breath in... it’s like having a piece of the seaside in your very own bathroom! Rinse off with warm water and marvel at your new smooth skin.

Let’s not forget about the face, a good cleanse works wonders at removing dead skin cells ( these little culprits can make skin look dull and tired) Naked’s Jojoba in the Buff is a gentle exfoliating face wash packed with 1000s of tiny waxy beads that deeply cleanse and remove dead skin leaving your face as soft as a kitten.

Now you’ve scrubbed, it’s time to relax.  We think the perfect partner for this is our Melt Away Naked Bath Foam. Made with Starflower seed oil, it’s believed to help with “women’s problems” and irritability. So a long soak in these creamy bubbles, bursting with natural floral fragrance, should help to melt away your stresses and strains ( even if it’s only because you have the bathroom to yourself at last).

Us girls ( and maybe some guys?!) are good at multi tasking, so whilst soaking away give your hair a wash with Naked’s Shine Hydrating Shampoo. We’re not going to tell you how to wash your hair because you probably already know. What you may not know is that the key to shiny hair is to keep it regularly rehydrated so it remains smooth enough to reflect the light. Naked’s Glossing Hair Treatment is packed with organic coconut oil and shea nut butter, renowned for putting the sparkle back into hair. Scoop a generous amount of this velvety treatment through your hair, put on a shower cap (we use those free ones you get in hotels!) and wrap a warm towel around your head and do nothing for 3-5 minutes. Rinse off and reveal the magic! If you’re feeling extra brave, a shot of cold water can really help enhance shine.

For the pampering finale, dry yourself off and smoother your body in our Coco de Mer Body Butter.  Heavily moisturising, for skin with an insatiable appetite, this body butter leaves you veiled in an intoxicating scent so you feel caressed day and night. This is no ordinary Body Butter .......this is a Naked body butter!

Fish at LFW

Fish Hairdressing Co. has more than twenty years experience in hairstyling and was, last week, tasked with its biggest project yet...creating the hair for Pam Hogg’s spring/summer 2011 collection at London Fashion Week.

Daisy Lowe, Ben Grimes and Alicia Duvall were among the fifteen models involved. Using inspiration from Pam’s new designs and angular, ultra modern style was created to tie in with the futuristic look of the girls. A range of Fish hairstyling products were used to create the styles, with the aim to ensure the hair remained looking natural.

Chris Lock was the head stylist on the day. We had a chat with him and found out how he achieved the look:

PREP.” I prepped the hair with Sleek Fish High Gloss Serum before blow-drying it straight. I sprayed Hot Fish straightening Mist through the lengths and used the straightening irons to really smooth down the hair.”

SHAPE. “I wanted it to be flat through the top, growing at the crown into an angular mound.

I backcombed in some volume at the back of the head, before splitting the hair into three sections – a ponytail at the nape of the neck, another midway up and the last section coming from the forehead back across the crown. I kept the sides sleek with Star Fish Shine Spray and coiled the middle ponytail over a doughnut ring to create a spongy bun. Then I smoothed the top section over the bun, forming a wedge. I finished with a mist of Flexy Fish Spray Wax to hold

the shape.”

SHORT HAIR. “With the short crops, I backcombed across the crown into the same smoothed wedge at the back using the ‘stoned fish styling clay’ – all the hair is brought back from the forehead into a bouffant.”

So to update your look this Autumn, without having to change your wardrobe, why not experiment with a new style?
