Worried about Mother Nature and her hot flushes?
We are. Because we love to use as many natural ingredients in Naked as possible, we have a responsibility to make sure we don’t do any damage in getting them to you. It’s a bit like tidying up after yourself, or better still, not making a mess in the first place. We’re not scary enough to be eco-warriors, so you might want to call us eco-worriers!
We believe that recycling is a bit like karma – what goes around comes around.
As of this Autumn, some of our products are going to be packaged in 100% post-consumer regrind (PCR) bottles ie. made from already recycled plastic. PCR plastic bottles are rigid, so only the products with pumps or ones which don’t need squeezing can be put into these bottles at the moment. However the packaging industry is taking giant steps and we are constantly learning, so as soon as we find a way, we will put as many products into PCR plastic as possible. The good news is that all Naked bottles are made from PE – a universally recyclable plastic.
We are continually looking at even better packaging options available for toiletries. We’ve learned that biodegradable plastic bottles ( made from polylactic acid ) can be more tricky that you think. Our products contain essential oils which can make biodegradeable plastic bottles break down sooner than we’d like - we certainly don’t want your Naked products melting on your bathroom shelf after a couple of days!
However, the outer packaging for our Christmas 07 gift packs is made from compostable and bio-degradable materials – even the clear ‘window’ is made from corn starch.
Please “bare” with us as you see these new packaging options arriving – they are slightly flawed and sometimes look poor quality. The truth is quite contrary – recycled materials are a more expensive option and great time and care is taken in sourcing them. We haven’t passed on the cost to you though!
It’s vital that we look after our Natural World. If we can source ingredients and materials here in the UK we will. When we have to travel further afield we will always buy from sustainable and community-traded sources wherever we possibly can. So for example, we would never use Rosewood essential oil in a fragrance because there is no replanting policy for this endangered species of tree and the Marula and Brazil nut oils in our hair products are community traded.
Oh, and by the way, all of our products are actually Made in the UK – it cuts down on our carbon footprint.Naked contains no animal derived ingredients so is suitable for vegetarians. We also don’t believe in testing on Bambi, Lassie, Skippy or any other animal – not any of our ingredients, not our final product (although our founder’s dog once had an Angelica bubble bath courtesy of her kids!) That’s why we’re listed in Naturewatch UK’s Compassionate Shopper Guide.
Trees are brilliant aren’t they? We want to ensure that Mother Nature’s family of trees survive and thrive, either here in the UK or further afield in the Congo Basin, so in 2007 we are supporting both The Woodland Trust and Rainforest Foundation UK.
Two Christmas gift packs will include a donation to each of the charities and we are hoping to raise £30,000 for the charities – that would be a good Christmas present for them wouldn’t it?
We also have a year-round gift pack, Naked in the Meadow, which will raise money for the nature charity Plant Life.

Originally found in Turkey and Syria it is now grown all over Europe and the Borage found in our Starflower Softening Body Wash and Foam Bath was actually grown here in England.
