Quick mood boosters

Sometimes we could all do with a bit of a boost, and if thoughts of the colder weather winging its way over have got you down here are a few quick and simple mood boosters that could make all the difference:

  • Exercise. I know, the last thing you feel like doing is exercising, but trust me when I say that it can be the perfect solution. Exercise releases feel-good endorphins into the bloodstream, giving you an instant pick-me-up as well as a gorgeous post-workout glow.

  • Laugh. A quick belly laugh can have a powerful impact on your mood and can instantly make you feel more relaxed. What more excuse do you need to watch re-runs of Friends?

  • Eat chocolate. Now, we don’t need a reason to eat chocolate here at the Naked office, but knowing that it has mood-enhancing effects makes us feel more angelic than sinful—chocolate contains phenylethylamine, a mood-regulating chemical that’s found naturally in the brain, and it’s also thought to boost the body’s production of serotonin, a natural anti-depressant. Stick to dark chocolate (for additional antioxidant benefits) and remember that a square or two is all you need. Theoretically, anyway…

  • Listen to music. A quick blast of your favourite tune can work wonders for your mood, with studies even showing that upbeat tracks can reduce the level of stress hormones in your body. Plus, if you combine those effects with songs that flood you with happy memories you’ve got the ultimate mood-boosting solution.

  • Get social. If you’re really feeling down in the dumps the last thing you want to do is be sociable, but seeing friends and family can actually work wonders for your mood. You know how good that chat with your Mum or best girlfriend makes you feel? Get to it!

  • Relax. Relaxation can come in many forms, whether you feel like going for a long leisurely walk, want to sit and read a book or would rather indulge in a bubble bath, but whatever you fancy just giving yourself a bit of “me time” can transform your mood.
