When should we start using anti-aging products?

These days we’re all getting a little bit hung up on getting older, thanks in no small part to the seemingly endless supply of celebrities that never seem to age. In the quest to keep those signs of aging at bay many of us are looking to anti-aging treatments to keep our youthful, glowing complexions for longer, but just when should we start using these products?

Well, skin starts to lose its elasticity and slows down collagen production in your mid-to-late 20s, so from then on you’ll need to start taking extra care of your skin. But, this doesn’t mean you need to go all-out on anti-wrinkle products—it’s all about prevention at this stage so keeping your skin moisturised and healthy is all you need to do, paying extra attention to the delicate skin around your eyes and lips.

Prevention is always better than cure and the fight against premature aging starts from the inside, so you need to take care of your body unless you want to see the consequences on your skin—drink plenty of water to keep hydrated, lay off the alcohol and cigarettes, exercise and eat healthily, because all of these things can have an enormous impact on the condition of your skin and can be the first line of defence against lines and wrinkles. Remember to keep out of the sun and give sunbeds a wide berth, and always wear a decent sunscreen every single day to prevent the damaging effects of the sun’s rays.

You don’t even need to go too heavy-handed with the moisturisers, at least not at first, because a daily dose of rich moisturising cream (such as our Thirst Aid 12 Hour Moisturiser) incorporated into a thorough cleansing and toning regime could be all you need to keep skin happy, healthy and totally moisturised. You’ll soon know when it’s time to start looking into anti-aging products but in the meantime—relax! Stress can be just as damaging to your skin, so stop worrying and stick the kettle on instead.
